Rose Funeral - The Resting Sonata

The Resting Sonata begins with the imminent death of the figurehead Christ conveyed through sound as a heart monitor counts his final moments of existence and flies buzz and circle overhead, seeming to sense his demise. In moments, the insects will be feeding on his decaying corpse. This is the first impression of the Cincinnati death metallers Rose Funeral on their debut full length recording, released by Metal Blade this January. Rose Funeral toured extensively with Unearth, Animosity, Emmure, and many others promoting their debut EP Crucify.Kill.Rot in 2007. This having gotten Metal Blade’s attention within two years since their formation, the band is being primed as the next promising talent in death metal. The eleven tracks evince enough promise in this regard, with their sufficient amount of blast, crunching, double bass and dual vocals to go with the emphasis on breakdowns. Now that they’re signed to a label that’s getting mainstream attention, the band is in a position where they’ll have to gain staying power by shaping these elements into their own unique sound.
