Pasadena Napalm Divsion- Pasadena Napalm Divsion

If one starts laughing halfway through Pasadena Napalm Divsion's self titled EP, don't feel alarmed. Almost all who listen to this are probably headbanging and laughing too. It's a bit of a humorous album with lots of intentional comedy in the lyrics while at the same time reataining a heavy, sludge/ crust punk metal sound in the vein of bands like Kylesa or even Crowbar. Sometimes it is fast, sometimes slow and droning like in the track "Non Ti Amo," which is indeed entirely sung in Spanish. "Spell It Out" takes the lyrics literally, but the music holds a great rocking vibe (thankfully the production makes everything able to be heard, from the guitars to the drums to the bass). "Speaking In Tongues" is more of a thrash based song with its quicker pace and vicious lyric assault. "Failure" is the fastest track on the album that is just relentless in the drumming and guitars, which are strummed so quickly one would think they were listening to grindcore rather than crossover thrash. "Okra," the final track, is the most experimental of all with a interesting drum introduction that is broken up but sectioned overly aggressive chugging and momentary clear vocal declarations. It is very funny, but at the same time cleverly funny and one of th emost innovative tracks on the EP.

The band may take some getting used to, but once fans realize that the humor in the lyrics is intentional, and also well placed as far as melody and heaviness goes, Pasadena Napalm Divsion will very possibly become quite the sensation over time with how its chugging yet catchy gritty music can tickle the funnybone just as much as it can make the head headbang. For those who are looking for more serious thrash based metal though, they might have to look elsewhere because the lyrics may fill them with cynicism.
