Nightbringer / Dodsengel - Circumambulations Of The Solar Inferno
One of the finest pairings in black metal for a split. Both Nightbringer and Dodsengel bring a similar dish to the table. If you have an appetite for distress then turn it up and fade out.
A whisper for the week of heart. A tale for the defeated man seeking a set path. To dismally fade away into an overwhelmed existence. So smothered in sadness and false hope. It almost feels as if reality is a black void of nothingness. Everytime I listen to Nightbringer I am confronted with uncomfortable thoughts I would prefer not to ponder. Their use of extremely high notes at a fast speed really adds to that un-nerving feeling through out your spine. The vocals are inherently evil. Some black metal singers sound like they are trying too hard to portray a distressed emotion. Both songs encompass negative emotions so well. The songs both have a very full sound to the writing and production. After hearing these two songs I can't wait to hear a full album of this. It feels great to be drenched in such dark and pure emotions. Nightbringer is one of those bands that never dissapoints.
Well since you've been stripped of your self it's time to go farther down. Dodsengel is about to bring you into an eclectic atmosphere. At times the harmonies are so beautiful and others times they are very dissonant. This has a great balance and flow to the songs. Sometimes bands go back and forth to much or rely on one direction in the song that leaves it boring or dry. These two songs are filled with ideas and creativity. This split is the definition of a tease. All I want to do is hear a full album of this right now. The vocals sometime sound as if a witch is slowly dying or some ghoul is fading into nothingness. The song structure is so enticing and all the riffs scream of tastiness. Some of the more melodic passages remind me of Old Mans Child. The guitar harmony in "Horus Sunflesh" makes you want to start head milling in your living room while pumping your fist. It's so good you'll be humming it all the way down the road. The vocals realy encompass so much range. Not only with pitch but with emotion.
This is one of the most interesting splits I've ever heard. This is a very forward thinking album in the black metal genre right now. Nightbringer and Dodsengel are two bands everyone should be entranced by. Give yourself a treat and welcome the distressed.
