Near Death Condition - Dismebodied: In Spiritual Spheres
Unique Leader. A label in my youth which I knew instantly what I was getting: nothing short of the finest death metal on the scene today. Back then it was bands like Deeds Of Flesh, Pyaemia and Disavowed amongst others. Each of these releases was a gem of its time early Pyaemia and Disavowed releases are considered rarities and people pay top dollar to get an original pressing of each. But that was then and this is now. The last great release from Unique Leader I heard that really stands out for me was Unmerciful "Unmercifully Beaten". In late 2009-2010, Near Death Condition, originating from Switzerland joined Unique Leader horder but the question I ask you, is it worthy to be on a label that I hold in such high regard. Simply put yes!! In fact this is the coolest thing I've heard from Unique Leader since that Unmerciful CD. Upon first listen, one will notice that the production is huge! Duely note that it was recorded by the band themselves in their own studio but enlisted the help of the (in)famous Hertz Studio in Poland for the mix and master job. This has paid off dividends.
Everything is sitting fantastic in the mix and I cannot fault the mix/production at all. "The Disembodied- In Spiritual Spheres" is a serious dark album with intersparsed atmospheric interludes that I must trully commend really lift the whole vibe of the album. This really adds to the atheistic/nihilistic/anti-religious vibe created in the lyric writings. Which might I add are worth a read! Influence-wise here, I hear a blend of early Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse and perhaps with a hint of Hate Eternal. Except on steroids!! These guys use these influences to great effect and fire out there blend of death metal at such a velocity, its unreal! These guys are fuckin fast!!! I really like the guitar tone here too. Its thick and heavy but tremendously clear which I understand has to be as there are alot of intricate guitar licks here. These are executed with razor prescision. I hear alot of Trey Azagathoth tinged lead lines in the solos which sound cool as I've always been a fan of that kind of lead work. The bass is there in the mix but it would have been cool to hear a nice piano like "clunk" in the back ground but none the less I can hear. The drums are absolutely amazing and do not relent for one second!!! The drums are pretty triggered though the sound is not ridiculous sounding and there is still a natural drum sound in amongst it. Vocally, the album is so impressive as the range on offer here is phenominal ranging from seering highs to the most guttural of lows.
This being the bands second offering I feel that the band have really found their stride. Opener "In The Name Of The Destructive Storm God" really sets the pace for this album and from that point you know these guys mean business!!! "Prayer To The Universal One" and "The Highest Vision" are real high lights for me.
These songs are the real powerhouses to me but hey dont take my word for this , do check this cd out!! This is a huge release for Unique Leader and should be by right a milestone release for them. It certainly has perked up this reviewers ears again. Excellent stuff!
