Napalm Ted - Into A Black Ooze
Last years "Swallow" EP was an introduction into this Finnish grind bands world. "Into a Black Ooze" continues the madness that preceded it, this time with a more fitting artwork and logo to support the release, although again, I suppose as expected, it’s a touch short in playing time, just over 13 minutes although that’s an LP in this field right!?
The mash of old and new is still present, the gruff vocal of the old (‘Born!’) is again favoured, whilst the modern screaming of ‘Burnt Arm’ throws salt into your eye balls and makes you pay attention, that’s for sure. ‘Vegadeth’ has the modern screams but the style is more death metal and a heavy uplift of blast beats greets you towards what would be the chorus, before going berserk on the second part. But the light and shade, that’s a curveball, Napalm Ted are clearly not afraid to step out of the trends and put their own lark on this style. ‘Harlequin’ is favoured, this is much more d-beat influenced before blasting once again and the guitar riff, that’s makes a nice change, almost groovy.
Varied and chaotic would describe "Into The Black Ooze", the threads of the many fabrics are starting to merge together, the system is starting to work, so let’s see what develops on the next storybook of Napalm Ted, as the this one, it’s worth a gamble.
