Intestinal - Human Harvest
Intestinal is another old school Death Metal band from the crypts of the Swedish underground scene. Founded back in 2008 this act already launched a demo entitled “Maggot Filled Flesh” sometime in 2009. “Human Harvest” is the first full length album, which was released via Psycho Records. What you get is about 31 minutes of Death Metal the way it was played back in the early 90´s. And guess what?! Intestinal was pretty much influenced by the pioneers like Dismember, Carnage and Nihilist. Not the worst bands to be compared with, but “Human Harvest” doesn´t differ very much from other albums that were done before. Let´s take a close-up look at the whole stuff: the production sounds like the typical Ancient-Death Metal-Recordings. If you enjoy the early works of Sunlight Studio owner Tomas Skogsberg, Intestinal might be another good addition for your personal collection. Fans of clinical high end productions should skip this review at least by now. The sound on “Human Harvest” is filthy and sleazy, but it will easily remind you of the glorious days of Death Metal. The tracks are dominated by down tuned riffs and several song writing ideas. The bass guitar regrettably drowns in the the whole sound waves. The drums rattle its sometimes faster, sometimes slower parts in the background, but fail to introduce new accents. Maybe this wasn´t Intestnal´s aim, but it would have been more entertaining. The bigger part of “Human Harvest” sounds like it was written a long time ago and I´m sure I heard at least some sections of the string work before. Nevertheless these dudes know how to handle their instruments and pay their tribute with some snappy riffs. The vocals are unfortunately pretty monotonous, growling just in a single dark pitch without a lot recognition value. After all, the microphone abuser spreads lyrics about ever-popular themes like death, gore and necrophilia to satisfy your need for sick stuff.
Intestinal´s first full length album is interesting, no doubt about it, but it also lacks in independence and big surprises are in short supply. For fans of solid old school Death Metal and those who dare to give it a try.
