Collapse - A Mano Armata

Not to be confused with the other Italian death metal band of the same name, Collapse are a thrash band born out of their love for all things thrash with a heavy influence of early speed metal. This is their first demo, their first moment in the spotlight, and this is very much a pleasurable experience all round. Collapse are fully “armed” (a translation of their demo title) and what you get is a reverb led sound of upbeat velocity with a commendable amount of powerhouse riffs. The speed and tempo reminds me of some early Overkill tunes mixed with Germany’s Deathrow. ‘Speed Metal from the Grave’ sounds like the early speed influenced German pioneers, like the aforementioned, the track also has a little bit of Canadian speed especially from the drum patterns, this is a great debut demo, I’ve had to break concentration and enjoyment to write these thoughts down quickly!

The sound is fresh, vibrant and wholesome, whilst retaining a certain level of authenticity to those that have gone before them within this magical spectrum of thrash and speed metal. ‘The Band of Mexcal’ is perfect, it features big running riffs and some gloriously tight rhythm work. The thrash gods are smiling upon Collapse. To a certain extent, I am humbled, Collapse deliver everything I am looking for in a thrash band, they wander into speed metal territory, and wander effortlessly into full on tantric thrash. For a debut demo, this is something certainly worth checking out. ‘A Mano Armata’ is available as a free download on their bandcamp page, so what are you waiting for?
