Bloodshot Dawn – Reanimation
Bloodshot Dawn have been rising stars of the UK metal scene during the last five years with critical acclaim and two awesome crowd funded albums. Front man Josh McHorran being the sole original member returns with a whole new line up. Notably Vader’s current drummer James Stewart among them.
“Reanimation” carries on with what the band didn’t really build but more perfected on their first two albums. The recipe was there from the get go, it has been more refined with each new release rather than evolved. It’s all here - the shredding, the tight, complex structures with wonderful lead guitar work with infectious melodies woven in and of course fantastic solos. The epic science fiction scale also is a lovely finishing touch. They walk that fine line between thrash and Death metal through technical and melodic in there too and put those four descriptions in any order you wish. Especially with the crisp, clean production it breaks down any genre boundaries. This is a modern metal album plain and simple and above all the musicianship on display in impeccable.
“Survival Evolved” has a brilliant lead riff that Rush themselves would be proud to use. The songs have the perfect balance of brutal precision and melody that harks back to Fear factory at their peak. 'Battle Of The Omniverse' is the albums masterpiece. Everything just comes together on this song before the album closes with the brilliant title track.
It’s a cliché but if they were American or were on a bigger label Bloodshot Dawn would be huge and they bloody well should be! They certainly should be on par with a band like Sylosis but hopefully this album with a decent bit of touring will break them through.
“Reanimation” is a fantastic record, while it does take a good 4-5 listens to sink in everything becomes clearer with every listen and it is so easy to put on rotation. I’m not sure where this sits among the bands albums. I like this as much as the last two and don’t really have a favourite. So it’s not better than the previous albums but it is just as good. It works as a nice trilogy. Fans will probably debate over the line up more than anything else.
People from the UK are always complaining there is no decent metal bands on our shores well here it is folks and it’s a damn site better than that poxy Machine Head album!
