Drop all wrath with Angelus Apatrida

We are with Guillermo, guitar and vocals of Angelus Apatrida, to talk about the imminent new album “Clockwork”, the first with Century Media of Angelus Apatrida, and the first of this label with a band from Spain, this thrash metal act is a direct metal fist  to the head, speed, hard riffs, overwhelming drums, the new era of thrash metal is here.

Guillermo, introduce your band for the readers of BRUTALISM.
The band was created in the Spanish city of Albacete in March 2000, initially with some different members playing a different and more familiarized style to Heavy Metal and classic German Power Metal. In 2003 we changed formation and gradually we were introduced to more extrem styles. Self-produced two albums were released (Evil Unleashed in 2006 and Give 'Em War in 2007) and after several years of touring, Century Media was set at us and we are about to launch with them our third album "Clockwork." We practice a thrash metal influenced by the Bay Area with many touches of the NWOBHM, the European thrash, death, hardcore... the line up is Guillermo: Guitar and vocals, David: Guitar, Jose: Bass and Victor: Drums.

Well, tell us about your new album with Century Media?
It is called "Clockwork", contains 11 songs plus a version of 'Be Quick Or Be Dead' by Iron Maiden on the special edition. It is produced by the band and Daniel Cardoso, recorded at Ultrasound Studios in Braga (Portugal) and goes on sale June 21 in Europe and June 29 in USA.
It's our first album with a record company and above all most importantly, launched worldwide with one of the most powerful labels in the world metal.

Why did you chose this studio, did you have previous references?
Yes, a band friend, Killem, we talked about it, we heard what they had recorded and decided to go there, apart Portugal is very similar to Spain and food prices and especially beer are very cheap! Hahahahaha

OK, well then tell us how was the fact of signing a major label like Century Media, and the fact of being the first Spanish group in a label of large-scale?
Well imagine, we passed from being a group that has done it all by themselves to be a global priority of a label like Century Media... all happened in Madrid, we were playing with Centinela (a heavy metal band from Albacete, Spain), and two A & R of the label went to the concert without us knowing it at the end of the bolus at the box office the girl brought us a card that had been left for us and the CM one Hjek alter we called and started talking about the band and then they told us they loved the band in studio and live, and they offered us to enter the label and so far hehehe

From day to day life can take a turn, and luckily it has been to good.
You see, haha Well you know that we were time in Spain giving noise, discs were selling well and we played well, but only in Spain.

Was a matter of time that good work would pay off.
Is rather good to be in the right place at the right time.

Did influence the future signing with Century Media for the tour in support of Arch Enemy in Spain?
Sure, label proposed us something to celebrate and promote the signing , with whom better that one of the biggest band of the label

How was the experience of touring and not to go and come as often happens with concerts?
Very good, we were accustomed to play a pair of days in a row, but never seven is fucking great because every day you are more in form above all if you spend every day getting drunk hahaha we had our doubts if we would keep up, but as I say every day everything was better, the songs come out better and you find much stronger.

Well and talkin about tour, I suppose you have closed a lot of concerts and touring in support of “Clockwork”?
Right now we have a few gigs in Spain and Portugal, you know summer fests, perfect to charge the batteries again and enjoy, in September began a European tour with Warbringer and Skeletonwitch and we will be around 40 dates all over Europe then return to Spain to make a national tour and play in good conditions the new album.

A hard work, 40 days touring!
Yes, it will be great, all the gigs in a row, no rest between any cities when you pick up the habit of playing and party is more bearable post gig hehehe

Out of interview in Portugal you are going to play with Fleshgod Apocalipse, between others, they are great from my point of view, I have the album “Oracles” and is amazing!
Yes, there are very good bands in that fest, we will see them.

What are lyrics about?
Are about we have always talked, almost everything is social critique the system, things that we do not like, we have experienced personal situations or see around. For Dungeons and Dragons are other bands that do it, we prefer using our music to drop all wrath that have accumulated on what you see on the news.

I also see those who have followed you from the beginning that your music has hardened over time, especially in “Clockwork”, where do you want to get to, I do not mean if you go to get to death, but if you see a disk changes for another.
What we believe is that "Clockwork" can say we are 100% Apatrida Angelus really is the sound of the band, the essence that has a live band, we finally managed to translate it into a CD, something that until now had not made. In live gigs we are  more brutal and I think now we have got it.

I attest.
Also goes a bit with the state of mind when composing .maybe  we become assholes and everything we see we end up pink metal queer hahahaha While the world and this country continue being a shit, we will thrash seriously, I think the essence of the Group is well reflected in this record is the most similar to see us live.

Well and for icing on the special edition we have a Iron Maiden cover, how was the idea?
We all grew up with Iron Maiden, and for me personally are my favorite band since I was child. CM gave us the possibility of a bonus track and gave us freedom for what we wanted, we set out to make a Maiden issue as a "tribute" and which is one of our biggest influences and they seemed hell of idea, something that is out of the typical and normal. the  truth is that both sides have been very pleased with the final result also help people to understand how we have influenced Thus, to the point that this issue could have been perfectly Angelus Apatrida or at least so we see.

Yes, sometimes it seems that the coverer appropriate the song, as almost happened with Motorhead "Orgasmatron" and Sepultura, people said "Orgasmatron" of Sepultura, in place of Motorhead.
Something like this guy, if you do not know Motorhead (well have to kill you if you do not know hahaha) but you'd think this is song of Sepultura.

You understand how a band can influence. Maiden cover is a tribute to them and a way to remove a thorn we were taking long, you who know us from the beginning know that we played always Maiden cover in live ...

Yes, of course. and this title, which for me is a statement of intentions tell us why?
Yes, "Clockwork" is to reflect how we feel right now, as a set of spin gears that are harder than ever, something like a huge machinery that can crush everyone hehehe

Be ready Europe, this is harder than Villa and Torres attack!
hahaha,

Do you see Angelus Apatrida on tour in Latin America, USA or big festivals like Wacken?
It is the idea guy!

Before to know anything about Century Media I knew that one day I would see over there.
At the moment we have to try to establish the band in Europe, everyone that is working with us will fight for the next year we will be in European festivals and gradually see if we can cross the pond and make the thug in U.S. and Latin America but first we have to conquer the Old World hehe

I hope it, it was time to get noticed in the south by big labels, all countries had their big band less Spain, Portugal Moonspell, Italy many more, and finally Spain has a one in a big label.

Now only is necessary that this band is great! Hahaha

It will be, sure!!
Yes man, let´s see if this also helps to know the fuck up here also know to play good metal is very sad when you ask other bands and they do not know of any band, or directly say whether there is metal bands, let´s see if other labels are encouraged and cast a look at what we have here, especially in extreme metal and the metal leaves the standard "Spanish".

Yeah I know what you mean, unfortunately, the calimocho (bad, urban rock) metal has done much harm!
The point is that never has been supported bands singing in English, or who did more risky than the typical heavy group, let´s see if now it helps to give a blow to the table and turn the tables.

Yes and to wake up and look for quality...
Yes, that´s rigth

Do you know the tour dates yet?
No dude, we know that tour will begin late August / early September, but we do not know the exact dates, not yet.

Well, for the goodbye do you want to say somethnig for our readers of BRUTALISM.com?
Well, guy, thank you very much for making us a place in BRUTALISM, big salute to all who read it and we hope soon they can hear the album, and if they have a chance if we go by their countries, come to thrasher a bit! !

Yes, mosh mosh mosh!!!!!
Yeah!!!

Well Guillermo thank you very much for your time, see you soon, and I wish Angelus Apatrida the best future for a World wide thrash metal headliner.
Well, this was the chat with Guillermo, Angelus Apatrida is a reality, they are the heirs of thrash metal throne, if you have the chance of seeing them in a gig, go, you will enjoy and the battle is sure, we are ready for the upcoming “Clockwork”, remember, 21st June Europe, 29th USA.
