Xerion - Cantares Das Loitas Esquecidas

Xerion's second full length album entitled "Cantares Das Loitas Esquecidas" (Songs from Forgotten Battles) is a great piece of music. This Celtic Black Metal band from Spain has managed to mix melodic guitars, heavy drums, and growly harsh vocals into a mass of atmospheric dark ambiance. Everything is great on this album. It is deep, full, and complex.

The vocals take the forefront on many of the songs, giving each one its evil dark feel. They are harsh, growling, and vile. The guitars provide the majority of the melodies, while also, at times, being heavy, fast, and deep. Drums are quick and provide excellent tempo throughout the entire album. The uilleann pipe (national bagpipe of Ireland), flute, and whistles are utilized throughout the album as well. These instruments provide the Celtic feel and are incorporated nicely into the heavy mix of guitar and drums. As a whole, the instruments blend well and give this album an excellent dark Celtic sound. Furthermore, each song is diverse enough so that the whole album keeps your interest.

Overall, this is an excellent melodic heavy mix of musicianship and is highly recommended.
