Winter Axe - Eternity
This New Jersey black metal band formed as Black Dimension in 2002, influenced by the likes of Marduk, Behemoth and Immortal. Reforming as Winter Axe some time after, they released the full length Saga Of The Axe and the demo The Ice Blade Will Never Melt in ‘07. Released earlier in ‘09, their latest CD Eternity contains three tracks of raw black metal with traces of death and Viking. As with many promising black metal bands, the CD’s underproduced elements serve to add to its rawness. The chord progressions by guitarist/vocalist Exacre, while repetitive, reveal inventive and dissonant melodies with much potential to carry the band into unique musical territories if improved upon properly. The band are said to have improved by working with a live percussionist instead of a drum machine, though the bass and drums need to develop as actively as the guitars in order for the band to develop fully. Winter Axe have been reviewed by Unholy Alliance webzine, Metal Archives, Metal Bulletin and other webzines and have material included on the Atrocious Records compilation for May 2009.
