Waltari - Release Date

Waltari are if anything unpredictable -- in large part melodic metal with many crossover elements. Their album "Release Date" contains a mini-rock opera Cityshamaani which sounds as if it were the collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Lenny Kravitz.

"Release Date" is impressive in many ways, very tight, very well produced but perhaps just a bit too much. Certain tracks contain dance music, some are more rock-rap, there is some very nice classical piano and Irish fiddle, Andean Flutes, you name it. It's all in there and it is almost more interesting than pretentious, but alas ... in the end you wind up feeling more annoyed than genuinely entertained. Pick a genre, dudes!!!
