Vhan - Hero vs Hero

Vhan is a Belgian band that is existing since 2005 or so. At least that is what I think as their first demo was released that year. The bio in the press sheet begins "After a few years of existence, Vhan have finally found it's identity in the debut of the year 2008..." so I think it might be true.

Like every other band (ofcourse there are exeptions of the rule) there were line up changes and when the current line up was formed they started recording their debut full length that was released in 2009 under the name "Hero vs Hero". An album with 8 songs plus an intro, so 9 in total. The style you could give them is metalcore as they blend hardcore with aggressive metal. The guitars are thick, pushing drums and screamy vocals.

The album begins quiet with the intro in an accoustic way with guitar and piano and is overruled by the aggression after 1:22 minutes. How many times I listen this album I don't think the intro fits. But that aside. The remaining 8 songs show beside the power and heaviness also a melodic touch. The songs are build in tempo changes that make you move your neck up and down, there is also room for moshparts or pits. And although the sound of this album is clear and heavy I think the band is better watching on stage. This album contains the spirit and energy but you will feel the adrenaline when you are in the venue.
