The Hallowed Catharsis - Killowner
The Hallowed Catharsis are a hidden gem from Vancouver, BC. 2020's input from them is nothing short of a brilliant combination of technical death metal and progressive wizardry. "Killowner" is the band's fourth EP since their birth in 2013. If you're unfamiliar with the band or their previous entries then this could become a joyous voyage listening back on seeing how the band have progressed in the seven years and four releases.
The EP's 15 minute length and six tracks sets the scene of it's lyrical content based around extraterrestrials and mutation. Despite any track breaching the three-minute marker, their fiction is told in a form of thrilling riffs, guttural vocals and blast beats. The prog element the band portrays takes the genre above what their peers are capable of doing, allowing The Hallowed Catharsis to step up and take the crown in the underground throne.
For fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Revocation and Rivers Of Nihil, The Hallowed Catharsis embark on a creative and diverse path to ensure that metal certainly isn't going anywhere just yet and still sounds refreshing as ever, as proven with this short yet enticing EP release.
