Textures - Silhouettes

Since their forming, back in 2001, Dutch band Textures has always tried to push their limits further and further. Highly acclaimed albums "Polars" (2004) and "Drawing Circles" (2006) brought a big deal of attention on them from progressive metal listeners, but still not enough to make them "popular" in the scene. This third effort comes so close to a flawless material (from all points of view) that it's impossible not to remark them. It's strange to say that this new album brings a more aggressive yet melodic Textures, but that's the truth, it's a pleasure to keep it in your player and listen it multiple times and afterwards to have a question like: "was it more intense than relaxing?". Certainly it has a more accessible approach than the first two ones, it's less complicated still filled with lots and lots of rhythm and style changes. The strong guitar riffs, the powerfull bass lines and the wide range of vocals (Eric is one of the best vocalists I've heard in long time) keep it metal to the bone. Not to forget the shy but effective keyboards that add a dreamy atmosphere overall and the drumming which although not in front of the attention do a marvelous job keeping it simple, with minor virtuoso insertions. The production is great, and this is a band reknowned for its DIY style when it comes to recordings and masterings. A modern, catchy product that deserves many listenings to be understood.
