Subservience - Upheaval

Founded in 2010 and hailing from south of the UK this quintet are a captivating live band that certainly know just where and when to strike to savagely engage with an audience. With new vocalist Dan Lofthouse taking over the helm in early 2014, the band have now written and recorded their brand new E.P “Upheaval” which they claim is their heaviest effort to date!

Having witnessed first-hand Subservience live at Death Wave I can safely say without any shadow of a doubt that they are a superb experience. The production on the E.P is second to none and the music is first rate, but fans of the band will already know this, so without further ado – here is my spin on their latest E.P Upheaval.

Upheaval
This is no nonsense in your face metal that blisters in a frenzied metal fury. The vocals are evenly tempered and menacing and lures the sense with an antagonistic slurry of riveting creativity. There are no limits to this barbed encounter and as a result it emotionally invigorates.

Inhuman Savagery
This feels like an acidic finger is being dragged along your spinal column! The deep cataclysmic grooves penetrate with infection and lavish with a weave of contagion. It is a tempestuous track that hits danger point and puts it on red alert for a spiked provocation.

“I recommend this E.P wholeheartedly to every death metal fan that reaches the far flung corners of the globe. Brawling with overflowing madness it constantly feeds the emotions with equal persuasion that ignites vehemently with passion and energy!”

Slither
With a slower bait it warms the senses with an extreme and forcible stride into malevolence and offers a predatory encounter. Evenly drenched in an irresistible coating of brutal energy and unyielding melodies, it broods in an attempt to throw the listener off guard.

Divine Malevolence
Smouldering in a molten lava of extreme heat which then burns into a torrid mountain of rhythms inflaming the sense to unbelievable heights. Weighing in on heavier tendencies to brutally crush its own reinforced structures. Its triumph is where it infuses its molten core with even more extreme intensity.

Summary:
There is nothing negative to say about this E.P whatsoever. The artwork is just as compelling as the heavy grooves contained within it. The production is finely polished to give the listener 100% quality and the tracks themselves offer resounding brutal death metal played at its utmost best! Captivating and engaging on all levels it brings rewards of erupting intensity which please on all accounts. Bold and dramatic it breeds with a dark heart that pounds in an inescapable and imposing adventure and thoroughly enjoyable!

Death metal does not get any better than this with the boundaries being superseded and pushed to their extreme limits, expanding with excessive malice and pure ingenuity. Although the vocals are low to growling they can clearly be interpreted whilst the music is drenched in a brooding angry fuelled filled massacre and yet the melodic grooves bite with super engaging qualities.

I recommend this E.P wholeheartedly to every death metal fan that reaches the far flung corners of the globe. Brawling with overflowing madness it constantly feeds the emotions with equal persuasion that ignites vehemently with passion and energy. Let the virulence blow the skull right out of your head until your eyes pop! And make no mistake it will!! Subservience are nothing like their name suggests and this E.P proves that tenfold!!

Utterly mesmerizing!
