Septekh - Not Quite What I Had In Mind
Not Quite What I Had In Mind is the most recent demo from Sweden's filth black metal grinders. It is very raw, very punk styled, in the vein of bands such as Dark Throne And Nattefrost. So expect some minimalistic, evil music. "Fucksluts From Hell" is pure black metal aggression fused with punk. It is raw, groovy, and defiintely embodies the idea of energetic. Vocals are surprisingly pleasant to hear as they aren't the the usual black metal rasp. Basically, if Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir ever formed a punk metal band, it would sound like this. "Shoot Them All" isn't as violent musically, despite the name. Instead, it is a bit doomier and more melodic death/ thrash influenced. It is still a very groovy track though. "Blunt Force To the Head" is even slower. The title track brings things back up to speed though, literally. While the guitars are blistering away, the drums focus on keeping the rhythm and groove, every once in a while going into drill mode with some senseless beatings. "Eating The Maneater" is the most rock influenced track and offers the most groove. The guitars sounds pretty awesome here in their riffs and the vocals do some great snarls. "Seth Avalanche" is a monster of a black-thrash track and really blows away the listener with its dynamics, not only for its intensity but also catchiness and more rhythmic sections.
Septekh must be an irony because their demo is certainly something that black metal fans would have in mind. Hopefully a label will snatch them up soon so they can continue infecting earholes with some great punk driven black metal!
