Secretpath - Wanderer
'Wanderer' is one of the debut demos from Melodic Death Metal outlet Secretpath. Being only six tracks, there is little to go by but most listeners can definitely get a feel for the band's sound. Mostly combining technical guitar with a mix of high pitched shrieks and guttural growls, one could compare it to a cross between early All Shall Perish and Taake when hearing a track like "The Dark Forest Of My Insanity." The styles clash, but it is an interesting mix. Secrepath also throw in a lot of acoustic and Folk elements that are a huge difference from their heavier works. Just hearing "In Praecipiti Esse" with the low, crooning clean vocals and acoustic guitar will make listeners wondering if they are really hearing the same band. On "... And So I Return..." Secretpath does a better job at merging the Folk moments with the Melodic Black Metal ones, and the syncing of the music is quite pleasant to hear. Overall, the band definitely sounds like they have something to offer and listeners should watch close to what else they put out if they like Metal that is dark and heavy at the same time while being vibrantly different at unexpected moments.
