Putrefied Corpse - Left To Rot

Someone could've given me this and told it was a release I missed almost 30 years ago, and I would've totally believed it. Putrefied Corpse captures the old school in a fucking serious way.

Hailing from Enschede, Netherlands, Putrefied Corpse's debut album, "Left To Rot", is a damn beast. After a short but intense intro, they begin the pummeling with 'Smashed To Pieces'. A blazing riff opens, then you hear the filthy voice of Bjorn van Toorn vomit the words "smashed to pieces" and the ride begins. FUCK!!!! Riffs, thrash beats, riffs, blast beats, the classic OSDM groove riffs all the while being completely intoxicated by these disgustingly incredible vocals spewing out lows and highs. One minute in and I'm hooked. The solo section of this ripper is a slow (Obituary like) killer old school throwback with a lead that fits the tone of the song with absolute perfection. I remember, during my first listen, when the solo fades (as if the song were ending) thinking to myself - "please repeat the earlier riffs"... and when it did I smiled and I think I screamed "YES". What a fucking opening tune!

'Cordon Bleu Of Her Curvaceous Bod' follows and does NOT disappoint. More sick ass old school flavor. And these fucking vocals!!!!! Musically, I can't help but hear some OG Obituary, again. But, shit, that's a good thing. I'm not saying it's a rip off (in ANY way) I just hear some influence. This album is just getting better. These dudes definitely know how to throw a hook in their songs too. I noticed that, only a listen or two in, I was already remembering and anticipating riffs/parts. IMO, there's a lot to be said for that. I strongly believe you'll be doing the same.

Skipping ahead a couple, we have - my favorite track - 'Sociopathic Monstrosity'. It begins sooooo heavy. The fucking chugging verse riff paired with solid drumming, sick low end and those (again) vocals!!! They toss in a little melodic section as well as a sick grind part... leading into my favorite part of the album. Starting at 2:25, is the sickest riff/section of "Left To Rot". Total thrashy DM riff that goes straight for your throat. FUCK... SO KILLER. I'm guilty of listening to this song over and over.

'Joyful Repeating Movement' rounds out their debut. In classic OSDM form, I may add. A moshy headbanger to say the least. Much like the rest of the album, it's just full of the OG feel. A well crafted ender for their beyond incredible debut.

On the copy I have, after their final song, I heard a very familiar note and picking pattern. Not looking at the track listing, I thought to myself "fuck, are they covering Obituary?" YUP!!!!! They shred a version of 'Godly Beings'.

I highly suggest Putrefied Corpse for ANY fan of the old school. I'm 30 years deep in the genre and got very hyped on this album. PICK THIS UP!
