Purulent Necrosis - Cadaverized Humanity

When I heard the debut offering of Purulent Necrosis entitled, “Cadaverized Humanity”, I was immediately impressed with the “thickness” of the production. This is first made evident through the relentless bashing of the drums which is how this release makes it unforgettable introduction. They are, no doubt, triggered at times but with the production as it is, it only adds to the insane massiveness of this release tenfold. It is the same with the guitars. There is nothing all that technical here but the way the riffs coincide with the blast beats, it will have you banging your head in no time. I am taken back to Malevolent Creation’s “In Cold Blood” album as well as mid era albums from Immolation, Internal Bleeding, and Thy Art Is Murder with an even display of influence and vibe throughout the duration. The one thing about this release that bothers me is the vocals. I will say that the tone and the pattern is a good one for the vibe of the music, however, there is no variation on the main vocals which renders them stagnant after a few tunes. The only thing that breaks up the monotony are the tracks with backing vocals containing a few mid-level screams. Despite this minor flaw, this release is still quite enjoyable, and I only mention it because it really stands out. More of the backing vocals would have made this release more insane than it already is!

Being a band in a genre that has the potential to overflow with copycat bands, Purulent Necrosis tend to stand out for their sheer intensity and brutality. It may be true that they are just another brutal death metal band, but when you start to get elemental about it, there are few bands who have the intensity that this band does. So many bands sound brutal but Purulent Necrosis take it a step further because they know how to “be” brutal. I don’t say that to disrespect other bands, but this band can break things down to the elements I spoke of earlier and create their brutality from the ground up. It’s not just what you hear on the surface. When a band does this it becomes a true form of art. It becomes an extension of their selves, their talent, and their intelligence. When you add to that the passion and love for death metal, you are going to have something memorable. It doesn’t matter if the subject matter has been done a million times before either. A band like Purulent Necrosis can take it to that level, Comatose Music is responsible for this fine release which is recommended for all fans of the most extreme forms of metal music. This band and this release are sure to be legends in underground metal. There is no doubt that all the respect they get they have earned. They’ve earned it not because they are just another brutal death metal band. They have earned it because they have redefined what it means to be brutal.
