Profanatica - Disgusting Blasphemies Against God
If there was ever a need for the most anti-Christian, bluntly blasphemous, and filthy Christ-fucked band on this earth... feel free to try out Profanatica. They aren't shy about what they believe. Period. Just look at the title tracks! However, not only does their lyrics and song titles make them interesting, the music does too. Profanatica are perhaps one of the few black metal bands who actually make a heavy use of the bass during these blasting raw tracks. It's thick, it's buzzing like a horde of hornets, and it is absolutely wonderful to hear on tracks like "Pious Piece Of Shit." While everything about the music may seem typical, it's the bass that really makes Profanatica stand out amongst all the others.
Lyrically and as far as song titles go... this isn't for the poetic or faint of heart. Profanatica don't look for the nice way of putting their anti-Christian senses out to the masses. Some tracks like "Fuck The Blood Of The Lamb" and "Angel With Cock" are bound to give even the most slightly devout Christian a heart attack... purists will certainly have to shower in holy water. While the overuse of swearing and violent overtures towards God may seem a bit repetitive here; after a while it is just 'anti god this, anti god that - blast beats fill in- anti god this, anti god that... etc.' The raw, churning power of the music would make fans of Nadiwrath or Sargeist happy, but the shock value of the music itself only lasts a little bit. If Profanatica do another album like this it's going to be a laughingstock. These outright blasphemous albums only hit hard the first time... after that its like hearing someone fart during a very important speech. Peals of laughter are unavoidable.
Musically, fans who already know of the guitarist's work in Royal Arch Blaspheme (along with another black metal great- Imperial of Krieg), know just what to expect from these guys. While Royal is more subtle with a knock, Profanatica will just blow the entire house down with a wrecking ball of hate, and those who can't stomach the blasphemy had best watch where they tread with his album. For those who don't mind unadulterated hate with plenty of dirty bass... then this album is certainly for them!
