Prezir – As Rats Devour Lions
Prezir are a five piece black, death, thrash band from America which is a change for Godz Ov War Productions as normally bands on their roster are from Poland or the surrounding area of Europe. However this is no issue as Prezir fit the label like a glove.
"As Rats Devour Lions" is a savage, cold, harsh album. With scathing scorched vocals and barbed wire riffs. There is no fancy intros, no messing around. Each track from the opening title track to 'Janičari' with its screaming leads right from the get go. It is abrasive and unforgiving from beginning to end.
Played with the chaotic break neck intensity of Kreator or Dark angel but with the black metal melodies that creep into your subconscious and stick in your head for days afterwards. It’s a barrage of riffs and masterful solos, each track hits you like a freezing hurricane and the next track does exactly the same and you are simply punished over the course of 8 bewildering tracks.
This is a stunning piece of black metal. It’s incredibly infectious. It’s so easy to get into from the first listen and you will just keep going back to it.
If you felt Marduk’s "Viktoria" from earlier in the year was underwhelming then definitely pick this up. A stunning debut.
