Police State - Mind Collapse

At first I thought, that is another crappy crustband as there already exist thousands. Unfortunately, this impression finally came true. And this is sad, because I like the attitude they have. But step by step.

The band whose album "Mind Collapse" I'm listening to is called Police State and was founded in 2013 in Pennsylvania. The band describes their music as powerviolence/grind/crust and that is certainly not incorrectly described. In any case, there is a fundamental political attitude existing in the band, which can also be found in the cover of "Mind Collapse" which was recorded in September 2015. A typical crust style black & white cover which has been drawn in a simple style and with an ultimately clear political statement concerning critique of American policy. Yes, you read correctly. One of the few American bands practices open criticism of their government. You have to understand, basically I’m not absolutely anti-American, but this is in my opinion a big plus for the purchase of this disc. So, no I want to hear what the music wants to tell me.

First you are served an intro which is not more than one minute of guitar playing. Wow, this very brave. So I think the music must be very special if they could use this as an intro. Finally, you can hear fast, but not ultra-fast, grindcore beats together with crustsound-guitars and voices like powerviolence. The grindcore beats are not as fast as they could be and the crustsound is not as crusty as it should be. Crust fans get what they want I think, but nothing more. Simple guitars, fast drums and voices between grunts and screams and sometimes even on it. Ideas or specials should not be expected. In just 16 minutes, 9 songs, although the disc officially supposed to have a length of 19 minutes, but the missing 3 minutes are no more than background noise of the guitars.

All in all, the disc is still sold as a full length album, which in my opinion is not cool, so I deduct one star. Musically, however, you get what was advertised. Listenable, but not essential. For absolute crust fans: ok But if you like a little bit grindcore, you should invest your money elsewhere.
