Pessimist - Death From Above
The German band Pessimist has released their second CD last March 23, 2013, via the German label MDD. Their debut album "Call To War" clearly marked them as a pure thrash band with a clear influences of bands like the Teutonic Trident: Kreator, Sodom and Destruction, to mention the most important of their native country.
The lineup for this record production is Michael "TZ" Schweitzer on vocals, Richard Beck on lead guitar, Eric Tobian with rhythm guitar, Severin "Sevi" Wössner the bass and drums performed by Daniel "Zufi" Zuflucht.
The first notes start with 'Feindfahrt' after a short intro and guitar sound, then without further notice, hard riffs breaks the chords one step faster, the thrash sound go well accompanied by the voice of Schweitzer, the bridge is proper for a mosh pit with one of the best German thrash metal bands. Then it is 'World Of Pain', again with a guitar intro that contains the speed but in seconds it changes and bursts into aggressiveness and voice torn a better way to penetrate under the skin, good speed on the strings and drums.
The third track is the namesake of the album, 'Death From Above', varying the speed... reducing or lowering the intensity during the first minute and then goes back into the frenzy killer, here is to highlight that the vocals are the ones that make this song old school thrash, those choirs make us remember the mythical golden years of the mid-80s.
'The Fallen', keeping the same formula with intro devastating the passive energy and then unleash adrenaline continues to 100. Right in the middle of the CD, comes 'Antisocial Bastards' again with an acoustic intro, but we encounter different times sometimes reaching melancholy moments, especially when running the guitar solo, very cool.
'Blood Will Flow' the old school thrash formula is kept. Pessimist has injected this formula into the veins of the listeners through each of his compositions. The comparison is inevitable in the next track, because the beginning and the end of 'Behind The Veil', bring almost the same chords of "The Call Of Ktulu" from "Ride The Lightning" by Metallica, an intro of just over 2 minutes then it goes back on the plane aggressive in it immediate section and then transforms to a more moderate weather, is the instrumental track of the album. Almost to the end comes "Do Not Care" which is noticed in sections arrangements and devastating influence of Kreator and the classic German thrash that wants to make you jump into the mosh pit.
This production is much better than the first one, it was made at Iguana Studios. Much more cleaner, clearer and much better appreciated the musical quality of the band, showing its evolution from its beginnings in 2006, keeping the base of old school thrash, varying at times to acoustic chords, breakneck speed, always characterized by aggressiveness and unavoidable adrenaline rush to the listener.
Hope you guys enjoy this CD.
