Perpetual - Grind Your Mind

Well Malaysia should it be? Yes, Malaysia has its own and old grindcore-scene. There are many bands. Rotgut, Damage Digital or Torture Incident to name just a couple of very cool bands. And now on my turntable is Perpetual from Malaysia with their debut album "Grind Your Mind".

Four Fuckers, Pijal (voice), Zull (drums), Nasir (guitar) and Zam (bass) try to create pain in my ears now. When you consider that Perpetual is a grindcore band from Sabah, Malaysia and formed in 1995 then you can say, it’s time for a debut album. Nevertheless the band has released several of rehearsal tapes, demos and split tapes/CDs. Their debut CD album entitled "Grind Your Mind" was released in November 25 2013 via The Noise Productions. The announcement was: <<A real grinding effort loaded with the blastbeats, discordant riffs, venomous vocals and sickening groove in the vein of brutal harsh Grindcore.>> and the album it is absolutely what they say. In particular the oblique riffs are very cool and the strange drums at the same time are cool. The sound commemorates the late 80’s  and early 90’s – especially the voice. But also the guitars, drums and bass. And I like it!

10 Tracks in 23 minutes are enough stuff to have fun with this album with a sound that is not as clean as today's and if you like old school grindcore. I don’t have lyrics but song title like 'Insanity Of War', 'Protector Of The Truth' or “New World Destroyer” gives an idea what the content of the lyrics is. My favorite song is “The Downfall Of Humankind”, everything what a fucking great song should have is to find in this. Mid-tempo drum parts with a neckbreaker riff and a nice short solo at the beginning and after a while and a classic break and then some real powerful grind-parts. You have heard the album twice or three times but then you will become infected more and more - drawn into a swamp of shit, fuck, mud and dirt. And once in the swamp there is no way out and you have to hear the songs again and again and you like it more and more and it seems that it takes you and somehow you understand what it is about. Someone is huge pissed off and now you feel that you are pissed too and this free your mind. And then suddenly you understand why this album called "Grind Your Mind". And you know that this band have done everything right. So I can say that GRIND IS PROTEST and get this album as soon as possible! Especially if you like old school grindcore or if you want to learn how to make grindcore.
