Oncology - The Metastasis
Ok now that is one nice slap in the face. A band with the name Oncology with one of those logos we love not being able to read, playing brutal death metal. How original is that huh? Not so much huh? Well you will be positively surprised once you push the play button cos these UK beasts seem to take their brutality way to serious.
"The Metastasis", is Oncology's first release as a band. Apparently what we have here is a newborn, but the members are not new in the scene at all. All three members of Oncology are former members of Putrefy, a UK band reigning since 1993, so it gets pretty obvious that what we're dealing here is veterans of the sound that really know what they want and how to get it.
A short intro, and the first song of this 3 track EP breaks the silence. Relentless and ruthless, it really unfolds the intentions of the trio from UK. Paroxusmic riffing, followed by a cruel and relentless drum programming (could be better could be worse) with a guttural beast behind the mic, forming a really solid brutal death metal terror unmatched. All the songs of this ep are moving in the same direction. No desire to slow down or compromise and get mellow. "The Metastasis" is all about brutality and this is what it gives. The moments where you can actually catch your breath are some slam interleaves they use here and there. Of course the heaviness there takes control and you can really feel it in your gut. Really heavy chops that are used wisely in this whole swirl and how could it be otherwise?
We're talking about fellas that are around since day one and really know how to do this. "The Metastasis" is the best way for a band to open its discography list. An EP that really sets a high peak from start. You deem yourself a death metaler? Well here's a release you can't miss.
