Nordwind - Thy Will Be Done

As one might expect from a band who is named “Nordwind” a heavy dose of Viking themed Black Metal is in store. This two man Canadian outfit released their debut EP entitled “Thy Will Be Done” in 2010. The production on this deliverance of fury is sub-par (however that has come to be the norm in this scene) and the guitar tone is all about treble; resulting in the guitar emitting a buzzing tone on each note. The tone compliments the production very well.

“Nordwind” opens their debut EP with a fluid drum beat which is reminiscent of some Viking era Bathory records, however this soon turns into a Black Metal assault which doesn’t cease until the album ends; even during the mid-tempo parts Nordwind relentlessly barrage the listener with quality riffs. The title track “Thy Will Be Done” opens with an ambient horn sound (probably reproduced on a keyboard) and quickly develops into a fast riff over droning drums; which seems to be the norm for Nordwind. The vocals are raspy and in the lower midrange, reminiscent of Wrest from Leviathan or Acerus from Ondskapt. This is a solid debut, Nordwind doesn’t do anything new nor do they aim to. The main fault in this album is with the vocalist and the use of mid-tempo parts; this album partially sounds like Ondskapt. For this fault alone "Thy Will Be Done" ends up being very middle of the road, despite the quality riffing.
