Nazghor - Life impaled

Having formed in 2012, releasing this their debut now and another album to follow in 2014 this group certainly aren't messing around!

Nazghor play black metal in it's most primitive, classic form. When you consider how far the genre has come since the late 90's it's actually refreshing to hear a band going back to basics and celebrating the sound of those classic albums that spellbounded a generation.

"Life Impaled" is a viscious, raw attack that pulls no punches. Taking notes from early mayhem, Darkthrone and even Venom. Opener 'Black Shadow Of Death' has that distinctive melodic shredding over a bed of blast beat drums while 'Devil Inside' has a punk edge and is actually quite catchy until the blast beats kick again! When the band take the tempo down the albums atmosphere really comes to fruition. The album has that murky, damp and dark feeling with it. It captures that constant dark winter aura that black metal compliments so well.

'Profanity: On A Blasphemous Earth' really showcases what the band are capable of. While they are not exactly reinventing the wheel the band have achieved what they set out to do and deliver a solid black metal album in it's classic form. I am trying not to simply compare them to other bands but when I listen to this album I can't help but think of classic albums such as Mayhem "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", Darkthrone "Blaze In The Northern Sky" and so forth but I think of them in a positive way. Nazghor are far from copycats they have the musical ability and song quality to stand their ground.

All in all a strong, promising debut. If the mood takes you for some classic black metal with the vintage sound look no further. It will be very interesting to see how this band develops.
