Nasum - A Tribute To Nasum
A Tribute To Nasum (aka the Tribute with the long tracklist EVER) is fifty two tracks of grindcore, deathcore, and death metal bands performing numerous songs by the band Nasum. Nasum originally was formed out of Sweden in 1998 before splitting in 2004. The band's politically charged grindcore must have left quite an impression on the metal world. With only about four full length albums and a bunch of split albums and EPs, Nasum left quite a span of songs to choose for anyone who chose to do a tribute.
As long as this tribute album is by track namesake, the actual duration is very short. Many of the songs here are a minute or less, barely clocking an hour overall. There's a few familiar names on the list such as Coldworker and Leng Tch'e, but the rest are relatively unknown. It's all deathcore, grindcore so among all the blastbeats and growling, the only difference in style between each band is the tone of the vocals. Since the songs are so short each band only gets a minute or so to showcase their talents, but overall they don't really sound any different from the one heard before.
As monotonous as the album can get, each artists pays homage to these supposed grindcore Gods. Every track lives up to the brutality of the original. Fans of grindcore in general will probably get a kick out of this, but may not take away much because there are so many bands to choose from and so little play time. It is very hard to say that Ablach has more talent than Sakat or Venocide when they all sound the same and only played for about a minute. It is like listening to a concert with the fastest change overs in the history of metal kind; not fun and ultimately warranting a riot at the ticket office for some money back.
