Murder Therapy - Molochian
After a successful debut, Murder Therapy decided to release a brief EP to keep their fans sated as they 'changed direction.' Claiming to be following the ways of progressive metal now more than death metal, they're turning a new leaf... or so they say. To hear this EP is to listen to something in mid transition. It's a step greater than death metal, but those who are well versed in progressive metal- death metal influenced or not- know that Murder Therapy still have a ways to go. This is more like metalcore death metal. Tracks like "Unvacuity" feature a chugging rhythm with blastbeats and a mix of harsh snarls and growls that are more than pleasant to hear, but overall the music is not that complex as it tends to fall into the same rhythms over and over, particularly the chugging fashion. It is still brutal though, and a good sign of where the band is headed. Other tracks like "Moloch" are heavier but feature a switch on the vocals with more of a rough scream, but lots of times the vocals are masked by the chaotic sound of the guitars and drums just crashing all at once. However, there is one very experimental track in which the progressive side of the band breaks light. "Di Luci..." is a long instrumental that is more of an ambient track than metal one, but features just the right amount of weird tones with the slow, plodding drums and mix of samples and keyboards for just the right atmosphere to keep listeners on their toes. As a result, it makes the album more than worthwhile to listen to.
