Mr Death - Descending Through Ashes
Featuring ex Tiamat and Treblinka members, Mr Death are murderous old haven death metal masochists from Sweden, the sound features a real juggernaut sludge driven guitar tone, emphasising the past masters of the Swedish scene. With a stage set up and appearance like General Surgery and Basement Torture Killings (blood drenched to the max!), Mr Death have a lot to live up too, especially with such a name as Mr Death. I assure you that your speakers are not broken, the sound is so immense I thought I had knackered speakers, it’s very low end and songs like ‘Your Final Demise’ are laden with backbreaking neck assaulters and groove, with that special touch of eeriness in the presentation. Vocally, there is a cesspool of vermin exploding from Joakim Lindström, and the d-beat intro and sludgy bass intro to ‘Another State of Decay’ lines you up for the ensuring top quality bombardment.
If you’re not compelled to proceed with caution when visually checking out the ghastly figure on the album artwork, step inside this release and then this will all become clear. There is a stone walled energy about this effort, sound efforts and sound bytes enhance an already big beefy death metal sound…as I mentioned, your speakers are not broken when you listen to this effort, but they may be once you are finished. This would rank alongside the current crop of old Swedish Death metal releases, but it is one of those releases that will stay with you for a long time, not strictly a classic by any stretch of my imagination, but it is a release that stirs any listener to press the repeat button time after time.
