Modus Delicti - Modus Delicti

This EP debut by death grinders Modus Delicti is hardly enough to feel the metal hunger, but it is an excellent tease at what the band has to offer. After so many splits, the group finally gets a stand alone release. Despite being only 11 minutes, it isn't one's typical goregrind. It falls more along the lines of death metal and even melodic death metal, especially with the introductory track. "Salvation Thru' Explosion" picks the pace up again but everything is not as in high full blown gear as grindcore usually is. The death vocal are deep but also comprehensible, like that of a mix of Six Feet Under and Cannibal Corpse. The guitars usually chug along but in a rhythmic formation along with the drums. Every once in a while the vocals will hit those annoying high pitches, but they are usually overlapped with the deeper ones to soften the blows.

"Guilty Of Appearance" is the only really 'hyper grind' track, but for the most part the rest of the tracks either involve very melodic sections either in the introduction of the song or interlude and really put Modus on a pedestal above the rest of tons of other goregrinders who all sound the same. This is like Aborted when they pulled more into the melodic grind rather than just goregrind with their last few recent albums, except more brutal. While the tracks are terribly short- usually less than three minutes- grindcore usually is tha way, and hopefully they will compile many more tracks to make for an exciting, crushing full length debut.
