Maze Of Terror - Ready To Kill

Based in Peru, this is raw thrash metal, in some places verging into more heavier places, in fact some of the music reminds me of Possessed in places, it has a similar evil scenario and tempo behind some of the music, especially the opener ‘Rotting Force’. There is much depth and width on this recording. There is raw harshness, there is thrashing rhythmic palm muted greatness in places, the arrangements themselves certainly lead you to a darker corner of the thrash word, whilst stepping occasionally into the death metal world of the latter part of the 80’s. Songs like ‘Lycanthropes’, ‘Executio Bestialis’ and ‘Protectors’ bring out classic early Slayer and some of the US thrash scene. This music is certainly a reality check and proves that a band like Maze Of Torment have the ability to match their peers rather than conforming to more recent trends.

The South American continent has always provided thrash bands with a much more raw edge, a certain level of evil I suppose, or just more of a more forceful persona when you compare to the relatively cleaner US and even European sound. ‘Ready to Kill’ is an album that gels from the first track, the first run through, it’s an album that can live with you for a very long time and certainly for a debut, one of the most complete recorded thrash assaults out there in recent times bringing a true spirit to the sub-genre once again. It’s an album you simply have to check out.
