Master - Slaves To Society
Alright BRUTAL Maniacs, today we are going to do some word association. Metal....Master. When I presented these to words to metal heads here is the responses I got. SLAYER, KERRY KING, DAVE MUSTAINE, METALLICA, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST. When I mentioned Paul Speckmann, the immediate response I got was "WHO???". Growing up, (I was born in 1977) I caught alot of bands at the beginning of there carrier and I remember quite a few, Venom was one I have alway been in love with, I also got to experiance KISS, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Nazareth, the New York Dolls, and a ton of others courtesy of my parents record collection. I first discovered MASTER in 1993 thanks to a Nuclear Blast Compilation called Death Is Just The Beginning 2.
I got it because of some of the bands on there I had heard through tape trading and underground and fan mags out at that point. MASTER was also included in that compilation, the song Cut Through the Filth, which to my knowledge, is the only record you can get that song. I was floored and suprised to learn that MASTER had been around since 1983 only under a different name WARCRY. It took MASTER 7 years to get a debut record out simply titled "MASTER". Old School but 1 step ahead of everyone else some how. Almost every band we listen to today will tell you that MASTER is a huge influence on there music.. why? Because they were there at the beginning of what we now call Death Metal. Even if they tell you a different band name... MASTER influenced that band. I had the privlage of sharing the stage with MASTER in 2004 at the FUCK THE COMMERCE FESTIVAL. 11 years after discovering the band. I witnessed the power and excitment of seeing MASTER live. Original Metal, lyrics that amplify what Paul sees is wrong with the world today, including his hatred for stupid people. MASTER is a must in your collection. The ultimate expression of violence through music. MASTER is the origin of fast, heavy, angry, DEATH FUCKING METAL. Note to all... sometimes the geniouses.. go unnoticed.
