The Jägermeister Dutch Demolition Tour V3.0, 3 Dutch bands teaming up to promote Jägermeister all through Holland in 9 venues. I’ve seen this tour once before, the second date at De Pul in Uden, but unfortunately only 10 people showed up for this concert, so I decided not to write a review about that one, since I would be visiting the last Jägerdate anyhow. And this last show from this tour takes place in Arnhem in a venue called Willemeen. The timeschedule is a little odd, normally The Lucifer Principle would open, Deadcell would follow them up and The Monolith Deathcult would be the last band to perform. This time The Monolith Deathcult and Deadcell switch places and that suddenly makes sence when I get to hear that Deadcell will have some acid/bellydancers with them.
When I arrive at 20.00, there’s about 5 people waiting outside before the venue. When we enter the hall the first band, The Lucifer Principle, is still soundchecking, it’s directly clear that earplugs will be needed, because the volume is turned very goddamn high. When it’s 20.30, there are about 15 people inside so they delay the starttime to 21.15. This is a big bummer for me, with the normal schedule I would have been able to see at least half an hour of Deadcell, but unfortunately this won’t be possible.
So when The Lucifer Principle starts there are about 60 people inside. And when they open the show with their first song at once headbanging occurs. The Lucifer Principle play a mixture of songs from their latest album, Welcome to Bloodshed, and songs from the previous album, The Pitch Black Dawn. The audience loves it, a lot of headbangers and once in a while a small pit occurs, the first one on request from The Lucifer Principle’s vocalist. The performance is intense, especially the vocalist is everywhere on the stage and headbangs his face of. There’s a lot of interaction with the audience and offcourse the standup bass is great to watch. I also heard this band has signed some kind of deal with Jägermeister, I wish them all kinds of luck, because this band will be going places, I’m sure.
After a fifteen or twenty minute break and some beers the first intro from The Monolith Deathcult starts and it developes into the intro for Den Ensomme Nordens Dronning. The Monolith Deathcult starts their performance with their backs turned towards the audience, untill the first riff hits in. Since they’ve released their 2008 album, Trivmvirate, they’ve started every show I’ve seen them play with this song, it’s slow and tends to feel doomy. But after this song it turns into faster gear, bombastic death metal, that’s how one could call it. The Monolith Deathcult used to have a synthesizer guy, Carsten Altena, but since he has left the band it’s all up to guitarist/vocalist, Michiel Dekker, to control all samples and sound effects with his MAC. And to be honest, I don’t hear a lot of difference between the times they had Carsten Altena in the band and the times they don’t.
The Monolith Deathcult plays a set with songs from Trivmvirate and with one song from it’s predecessor, Concrete Sarcophagus. They also threw in a fragment of Nile’s, Black Seeds of Vengeance, at the end of the song, Master of the Bryansk Forests, where Michiel sang the original lines, Robin spew out “black... seeds... of vengeance”. If you are familair with TMDC live, you’ll know that these guys don’t interact to much with the audience, some find this to be a downside, but I personally don’t mind it, because it fits the bands attitude well. TMDC brings all of this great, headbanging and the double vocal attack sounds great, they play tight and whenever Robin (bass and vocals) sweeps his hair around it’s great to watch. The audience takes all this very well and headbanging occurs and once again a small pit takes place. A great show and performance from a great band!!
By the time The Monolith Deathcult finishes it’s set it’s 23.05 allready, allmost time for me to catch my train. So I use my last coins to get me some beers and buy me some merch at the merchstand. Unfortunately I had to go before Deadcell even started, bummer, I hope I’ve got more luck next time. Luckily pictures have been made from Deadcell, so you can view those anyway! Overall this was a great show and it was a great way to finish the Dutch Demolition tour V3.0!
Thanks a lot to Nando for the great pictures (they rule man!), you can watch all pictures on the following links and you can also take a look on his website: http://www.nandoonline.com
