Hypnos - In Blood We Trust

This Czech duo has been together since 1999, barring 3 years between 2006-2009 when they split for a while. Bruno and Pegas left Krabator then joined RAD before breaking way to do their own thing. This is a re-release of their 2001 death metal album, with themes around anti-Christianity, death and violence.

The album has its own take on death metal. The songs are introduced by a short burst of speech in a different language, and then in roll the guitar, heavy, hard and fast. The drums provide the backdrop to this, but the duo seem to have it perfectly timed, as well as sharing the vocals – with one taking the deeper growls and the other the higher screeching. They work perfectly together as a team and their voices complement each other completely.

I can’t really find much wrong with the album – it’s hard, its fast, it takes control and headfucks you in the hardest way possible. The guitars and drums get stuck in your head on repeat and the battling voices just serve to fulfil this package perfectly, creating music that can be listened to over and over.
