Husk - Hymns
This is the debut release from Hush from Norway. It was recorded by the guitarist in Klevertak. So you already know this is going to be good. The album almost starts off by teasing us with how heavy it could be. But the following track drives you straight in. Spazzy, crushing, old school hardcore all in the same song. Husk is very good at putting verying rhythems in the same song. Their overbearing tone reminds me of Binah. So thick and saturated, yet at the same time very clear and crisp. A song like "Keelhaul", takes me back to my roots when Poison the Well and Every Time I Die came out and were so awesome. This track even has a screamo feel to it at times. Dare I say... even a southern groove to it. The clean track "Harvest" is not only eminating relaxing vibes but is also a nice little break from the ferocity of Hymns. "Babel", is the final track and it is definitely the lone stragler. This final track is quite possibly the final punch to the face they wanted to give you.
There is something deep about being called Husk. It's an important part of pants to protect them from extremities. At the same time it is easily discarded before preparing corn, for example. Something that was a key element for now is a decaying piece of refuse. If you like genuine music, crushing tone, extremely pissed off vocals and like bands such as Converge, Binah and all the best D-Beat you can think of.... then Hymns by Husk is for you.
