Heretic - Angelcunts & Devilcocks
In this occasion we will change radically the style of music on which we are in the habit of speaking, to centre on this hard and over-excited offer that comes to us from Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Formed in 1996, for Thomas Goat – vocals and guitar, Tony Hellfire - bass and Tom Grind - drums, and with three discs already in their credit, they present their fourth one long duration, titled "Angelcunts & Devilcocks", they are Heretic.
The truth is that it comes occasionally well to us to change a bit our vision of the music, to leave a bit of side the technicality, the productions so well elegant and the competence that exists among so many bands at the moment of demonstrates the one who makes it better, and to pay attention to this type of works, which take us again to the roots, the essence of the anger, to when the important thing was to transmit and not to demonstrate, beyond of the label that we want to put, Punk, Rock, Hard, Metal, or a mixture of all that, today Heretic has made me remember that the important thing in the music is the spirit, and not always the perfection.
With the first song, 'Hail The Beast', already we can do an idea of what we are going to find, rage, aggressiveness, a dirty sound that gives the perfect touch that needs the composition to transmit what the band wants, and a dubbing in the voice that calls me powerfully the attention, in 'Black Perversion', with a dense and heavy cut. What we can emphasize is that to everything previously mentioned is added a new factor, the darkness, apart from a very well used double - kick that actually I was not waiting in the chorus, in 'Crowned In Filth', we meet a rocker composition up to the moment, but with a sharperer touch at the end of the song that reminds me to the first S.T., or Cyco Miko whereas, (two of my bands of head-board), if it was not for the vocal difference. This way we come to the song that gives title to this work, 'Angelcunts & Devilcocks', undoubtedly, one of the best compositions of the work, in which the first thing that we emphasize is the melody, which up to the moment was absent, a good work in the bass, and the drums also, to return to the darkness with 'My Demon Mistress'.
Already at the half of the work, we meet another seasoning that was inedit till this moment, the speed of 'Sweet Little Sacrifice', which in my opinion has a perfect location, to continue with the dynamics without declining at all 'Morbid Maniac', 'King Sodomy' and 'Let Me Be Your Altar', they are three songs that in my opinion, share in certain way similar characteristics, and it is here where we can observe a small touch of Metal, in some of their rift's. And, to close the work, we remain with what for me, is the best composition of the album, 'Maze Of Madness', it is here where we can know to the band in all its brilliance, the best instrumentation, and an excellent end where they have encouraged even with the piano, a very good and surprising way of saying goodbye.
To conclude, I must say that I could have noticed the self-confidence and the sincerity that only the years of career give, to leave the superficiality and to centre in what matters, what we really are.
