Gut - Disciples Of Smut
Is there anything Gut can't do? Perfectly executing catchy extreme metal as showcased on the album title track which boasts of a blackened sludge genre, whilst following track 'Altar Of Domination' serves as one of the most well produced sounding goregrind tracks I've ever heard. Further down the line the band are able to produce a plateful of variety that surely no metal fan can deny enjoying. 'Hypnotize Harem' and 'The Well Of Souls' introduces the Gutalax styled porno grind vocals of burps and farts over a grindcore spine of crusty riffs, whilst deeper into the record 'Dickslapped And Shrinkwrapped' flirts with hints of hardcore and beat down within a crust-grind backbone.
'Empire Of The Centipede Of Pigs And Hoes' clocks in over six minutes and serves as the album's longest track. It's an epic array of death metal at it's bleakest and most surreal, often entering doom metal terrain but with a more vast vocal variety. With sixteen tracks clocking in at just under fifty minutes, there's literally no stopping Gut in how many genres they can shove down the listeners ears and engulf them with their bludgeoning concept. 'Disciples Of Smut' perfectly demonstrates the way these many extreme genres can be merged into one without sounding too frenzied or listenable.
The comedic approach to the song titles and some of the samples within often brag that the band cannot be taken seriously. When in fact the material at present here is more than enough to prove Gut aren't just here for shits and giggles, and with a more serious approach on a future record Gut could take the underground metal scene by storm, and easily levitate above their comedy peers of metal.
