Grimwald - The Legend Of The Raven
Grimwald is a band founded in the Autumn of 2007 in Turin (Italy) by guitarist and keyboard Helvoth. His intention was to play old school black metal with ambient part. After completing the line up and some changes the band begins to rehearse and pratice the songs. In October 2008 Grimwald enters the studio and start to record three songs that will become the EP "The Legend Of The Raven".
The opening track starts with a depressed piano/keybord intro and follows with an uptempo beat (they won't play faster than this) with a voice that rasps in a cold fog. The switch between uptempo and midpaced is made easily. But like in the introduction said Helvoth wanted to create old school with ambient. So the switch to an ambient part with peaceful guitars is made in a natural flow and it all ends in uptempo. But the 7 minute songs is not over as the 2nd ambient part follows to really end the song.
The closing two tracks are in the same way done. Nice melodies in various tempo although the ambient only is in the tail of the title song and not at all in the last song "Ius Primae Noctis".
The three songs show the potential of Grimwald and this has resulted in recording a new album called "The Berzerker", of which you can listen some songs at the bands website. Be sure to check them out.
