Evil Invaders - Evil Invaders

I am rather pleased I gained this EP to review as I was at the time trying to find more of this Belgian band as they have been announced as a replacement for Razörwyre at this year’s legendary Keep It True festival. Roll out of the midst of internet research and Evil Invaders come at you like a real forceful speed metal attack, as if they were from Canada, but they should not be considered as sounding like that release or band. Their music should not immediately be pigeonholed as speed metal, there are many influences apart from the obvious Maiden and Accept types, their song structures may be fast but the riffing is classic metal, the speed adds a real bonus though I have to say! Although Empire Records picks up the release duties, the band are actually unsigned, criminal I am sure, but I am also sure by what I have read that this band are looking for the best deal for themselves and not just taking any offer that may come along, good business sense!

The music itself has a touch of everything as I have touched upon previously especially ‘Driving Fast’ One would expect total speed freaks right, nope. Evil Invaders have the guts and the energy to to play with tempos and bring a special flavour to the music; this is especially heart-warming for a young band to do this as you normally experience tantric speed and enthusiasm. Not that there is any reduction in this, it does sound fresh and inviting although I have to admit I am not in total favour of the sound quality of some of the instruments. ‘Evil Invaders’ itself is their masterpiece, this is a real metal anthem and over five minutes worth, you have plenty of moments to spark much excitement about. Vocally, you may find some Agent Steel or Gama Bomb similarities, but the music is more traditional metal to that of those aforementioned bands. The guitar solo really hits the spot, what is missing is a bit more beef a bit more substance from the drums and bass. The solo’s they do make you forget about this, it’s very early to late 80’s Maiden this one. Especially some of the guitar work, amazed and enthused is your reaction as a result.

Apart from tiny niggles, Evil Invaders as a band and as an EP release is metal to the bone and a terrific starting point this band whose career has only really just began.
