Engorge - Their Name Liveth For Evermore
War obsessed and concentrating this new concept album upon the first world war in Europe as a lyrical theme, Engorge from The Netherlands blast into life with some thunderous old school death metal in the vein of fellow countrymen Hail of Bullets, Asphyx, some Bolt Thrower and many energetic takes from the Swedish scene. Engorge attack the western front with an arsenal of tracks that would bury any army or individual wanting to cause trouble for these death metal masters.
I cannot get over the sheer power, the aggressive nature of this recording, you wouldn’t be singing about flower arranging or one’s true love with this sort of production, hell, you would be lucky if you are in any fit state to pen any of your own lyrics, I am truly floored by how loud you can make this beast go, this is an album that could get you evicted from your residence! ‘Death’s Men’ has a touch of the melodic in the brutalism (great website don’t you think!), this really works every corner of your imagination and thus I find that this release grows even further to my top three of four albums heard so far this year, and I have a lot to think about in this respect.
War and death metal, it’s nothing new or out of the ordinary, but what I have found with this release is a utter barrage of Armageddon and what a bloody pleasure it is to listen too. Lyrically Engorge are touching on a dark period of history, Engorge have documented their thoughts and feelings with the utmost respect and the music manages to find new dimensions to the term old school death metal. Coming from a band I have never heard of before, Engorge are on album number three, and this should be their breakthrough release, the energy defies all belief, the power and volume you get from this effort makes your ears bleed, this is truly a lesson in top quality old school war death metal, and I absolutely love it!
