Elimi - Asylum
This is the second full length release from this two piece hailing from Nybro, Sweden. Seems to be a strong trend with good black metal bands only having two or even one member sometimes. It is hard to find a group of people with all the same like minded interest. The artwork looks like a 90's version of Resident Evil for Playstation. The artwork might want to be a more thought out next time around. The first demo has a nice plain cover with some simple aesthetics. While the other couple releaeses look a bit to juvenile for the type of music they are producing.
The album starts off like a bullet ride. Then rolls into a melodic landscape of black metal with a nice dash of pagan/folk on top. Track one and two are pretty similar, with black metal, strong melodic guitar parts and nice grooves. The album has solid drums and vocals throughout. Tracks three through five are way more intense with blasting throughout a majority of the sections. I feel the highlight of the album is the final track, Chapter Six: Alive, Dead. It's like a summary of the album in a concluding ten minute black metal epic.It has very intense blasting sections with extreme catharsis on the vocal side. The song structure with the use of sweeping meolodies and grooves, along side raw intensity sets well with the listener like a grey afternoon after a light rain.
Elimi should focus on writing more like the last track on this record to expand their voice. With more writing, more grit and persistence they will slowly rise closer to the surface of attention in the black metal scene.
