Dreamarcher - The Bond

Formed in 2015 by Kim Christer Hylland and Ruben Aksnes with the vison to embrace their idea's of songwriting Dreamarcher was founded. With a blackened progressive metal sound heavily inspired by their hometown Odda (Norway) the band tries to combine beautiful and ambient with darkness and concrete. After a while Odd Erlend Mikkelsen and Eirik KrÄkenes joined and the band was complete.

The band got signed with Indie Records in 2016 and was on its way to release their first album "Dreamarcher" in October that year. It was well received by the critics and the public. The music, especially the music video from their song 'Shadows' got a lot of attention. After a tour in Europe including Tons Of Rock Festival and Inferno Metal Festival the band released a live recording in 2018 "Hard ing" this record was only a preview to their next album. The band went back into the studio an finally in September 2019 their second studio album "The Bond" hit the metalscene.

After listening to "The Bond" I came to the conclusion that this was something that I've never heard before. The songs are a combination of breakdown's, sound effects and a lot of different types of rhythm's and riffs the vocals on this album are excellent and sound very futuristic. One of the songs that I liked a lot is 'Coal'. It has a very cold sound combined combined with a very long breakdown at the end of the song. The guitar riffs are wel adjusted with the sound effects and do not interfere with the drums and bass in this song. Sometimes I had the idea that the drums had a mind of their own like in some parts of the song 'A Fail Of Design' where at some point the drummer is playing a polyrhythm, its alway's a risk playing these kind of rhythm's because of the technicality. But the risk pays of and it is simply awesome to listen to.

One of the most weirdest songs that I've ever heard is the song 'Dominace'. Beginning with a combination of sounds effect that you often hear in horror films. After this the whole song starts to unravel. With breakdowns, raw vocals and even more sound effects in combination with bass guitar and regular guitars it feels like this song is not trying to be regular or comfortable. And again the drummer leaves a notable footmark on this song because of his style of playing.

This album succeeds at telling the story about the struggle between nature and men, it was also the vision of the band to do so. The lyrics are based upon dark tales from the Hardanger region and they're not ment for the faint hearted. The complicity in the music combined with a cold sound and melodic parts make it a one of a kind album and Dreamarcher has a really good style of their own. The electric guitar, bass guitar, vocals and drums are working together on this album but also have their own parts and twists. The production quality is good and the sounds mix from the different instruments is excellent, this is very important but sometimes overlooked factors. The album is an experimental masterpiece and lets hope that Dreamarcher is going to make some more albums in this direction.
