Distraught - Primer Explusion De Excremento
This goregrind metal band from Argentina have possibly one of the strangest albums of the year. This album builds on the perversity and strangeness.
The disturbing opening provided by Felacion could be seen as quite disconcerting by some with the growl going deeper and more twisted until it nearly sounds like the noise made by the demon in The Grudge. The sexually-influenced track is only made clearer by the addition of a probable female involved in some sexual activity.
The bestial sounds continue through the album, with clips of different animal noises creating a disturbing an intense atmosphere. Unlike other grind bands, the focus here is not on the instrumental but on the vocal and sound effects. With the vocal, it rapidly shifts from deep growl to twisted demoniac noise that could only be found in hell.
The words cannot be heard as the vocals recede amongst the instrumentals. The skilled guitarists are meshed among the drummer and the guttural growls that piece together the songs. Each sounds the same, which is bizarre but not unexpected. The drums flow from twisted speed to slow and demanding. With the shifting growls and strange demoniac noises the album flows as a law unto itself, meshing outside downs (someone drowning, a pig squalling in terror) to the strange and quite frankly disturbing album. The album also contains three covers of songs by Mortician and Gut and they are again decidedly deceptive within their names, yet also follow the post-demon album that this is.
