Dawn Of Tears – Dark Chamber Litanies
Second album for this Spanish metal band devoted to a mixture between the melodic death gothic metal and the symphonies of Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. Honestly the proposal is not so bad: it’s well played, the songs are enough arranged and structured, the sound is quite powerful and sometimes the feelings and the epic moods are really pleasant. But at the same time we must admit that there are also some problems. First of all the album sounds to me really “old” and impersonal: these kinds of arrangements and melodies should result winning for someone that has never listen to Enthrone Darkness Triumphant or Spiritual Black Dimension but not for a real symphonic black metal fan. Sometimes the similarities with the rhythmic guitars and the vocal lines created by Dimmu Borgir should be (…or better… “are”) embarrassing and this is in my opinion the most negative thing. Besides this Dark Chambers Litanies is simply too melodic and soft, in the fast parts too: there’s not the real fury and evil feeling that a symphonic black metal album needs to emerge and conquer the throne. Probably the guys need only to decide where they want to go: if they want to play symphonic black metal they must not play a fast melodic gothic and they must forget the Dimmu Borgir lessons. Sorry. And if you want to decide for yourself you can download it from their MySpace.
