Corpus Mortale - Fleshcraft
Strangely I've never heard of this Danish band before although those guys are active since 1993. Despite existing for so long, they have released only four albums and "Fleshcraft" is their fourth one. In their line-up shine the names of Martin Rosendahl (bass/vocals) and Brian Eriksen (guitars/vocals),both also part of the Danish death metal machine Iniquity. The other two guys in Corpus Mortale are Rasmus Smidt on drums (who as far as I can see from the band's page at metal-archives is no longer with them) and Carlos Robles (guitars/vocals).
Don't expect anything from "FleshCraft" but reletless oldschool death metal fury. The opening track "Weakest Of Ohe Weak" strikes with heavy Bolt Thrower-like riffs and the deep throaty growls of Martin. Very tight and precise drumming from Rasmus Smidt who delivers extreme and technical blasting upon the skins. Just hear the beginning of 'Love Lies Bleeding' (my favourite track from this album) which is marked by only drums and pounding bass and you'll be convinced in the great skills of those musicians. There is certain influence from the old Pestilence (the leads in 'The Unwashed Horde') and old Morbid Angel within the guitar riffing.
Corpus Mortale know how to write death metal tracks with groove and don't lose themselves in mind-numbing sheer aggression. There are slow tracks like the instrumental 'Crafted In Flesh' and 'Enthralled' and there are also the raging brutal pieces of 'Feasting Upon Their Souls' and 'Tempt Not The Knife'. The production of "FleshCraft" is on a very good level and allows you to fully enjoy the death metal madness of Corpus Mortale. I can't compare this record to their previous ones but what I hear is an example of first class death metal played by experienced musicians. In case you consider yourself a death metal fan then you should definitely check out this album.
