Cor Scorpii - Monument
Since the band was formed in 2004 by Gaute Refsnes it took 1 demo, line up changes and gigs before their debut album "Monument" is released. The album is released on the Dutch label Descent and contains eight tracks. The production of this album is great, it is clear and massive and that will stand out the tunes. Songs that are a combination of aggressive fast parts and melodic breaks. The breaks are in the right place and with melodic I don't mean annoying female sopranos or atmospheric but melodic with piano sounds, violins and dwelling guitars. The guitars sound furious and raging the whole time with some folk touches. Vocals are raw but everywhere you look on this disc you hear the creative riffing of the guitars that sometimes sound like classical compositions.
With "Monument" Cor Scorpii released an album stuffed with great black metal with enough variation to get you through your dark and cold nights.
