Chapel Of Disease - Death Evoked
One thing I have come to learn, if a music release comes out on F.D.A. Rekotz, then you know its going to be top quality death metal. Chapel of Disease were formed in 2008 in Germany (Cologne), Chapel of Disease originally issued ‘Death Evoked’ as a demo in cassette format and yes, you know the deal, this is old school Swe-Death inspired. With only four tracks on offer, the length of this release is impressive. The brutal Swedish sound holds true to its previous users and abusers, ‘Summoning Black Gods’ perfectly displays this love for the sound, the theme, the overall package of cool Swe-Death inspiration which I find a little like one of the originals; Morbid (Swe). This is down to the tone, this is a haunting sound that is reverb led and result in a true vintage sound.
As with most music in this field, it’s nothing that would be considered new or out of the box, but at least Chapel of Disease can play their music, there are not many occurrences of bum notes and demo quality on this release. ‘Dead Spheres’ takes me into the spectrum of the second Morbus Chron demo (‘Splendour of Disease’). Laurent Teubl’s vocal delivery is very similar to that of MC’s Robba, the raw aggression is something that I hold very dear in my musical tastes and I am pleased to the max with this resultant effort. ‘The Nameless City’ stands out for its tempo variations, its upbeat approach combining a simplistic, almost trashy delivery overall from which you gain a great haunting effect.
Chapel of Disease remind me very much of bands like Bastard Priest (but with more death metal than crust), Morbus Chron and other vintage acts, one would hope that things will gain momentum for Chapel of Disease like it has recently for the aforementioned, ‘Death Evoked’ is a crushing raw death metal experience that is buried in the rotten old school, it delivers a haunting vocal and has massive appeal in terms of authentic song writing.
