Chaos Engine Research – The Legend Written By An Anonymous Spirt Of Silence
Formed in 2007, Chaos Engine Research’s first album has taken its time to be unleashed, however the wait was most certainly worth it. What we have here is a barrage of groove induced death and thrash that comes crushing down like the foot of a gargantuan monster. Through the 12 tracks presented on this album, we are treated with this meaty record packed full of riffs and memorable melodies. The band isn’t afraid to escape their comfort zone with more quiet moments of that a progressive metal band would do. These moments fitted the album’s overall appeal very well and definitely didn’t feel forced against the titanium force that is usually bombarding us through listening to this album.
Soulfly, Machine Head, Pantera and Carcass come to mind when trying to describe the hybrid this album is. It’s a perfect mix and proves to be a memorable experience. The album’s main lyrical point is attacking the way media and the political manipulation that plagues our everyday life and how we should break free of these chains that are placed upon us from them. I did find the concept very interesting as well as the variety the vocalist provides on this cd, from Soulfly’s Max Cavalera-esque shouts, to the Carcass induced highs to the low death metal growl to the clean vocals prominent in some tracks.
Perfect in length, and enough riffs to cause a brain haemorrhage from the intense head banging that will occur when listening to this. A brilliant debut album!
